On the 11th December, the Global day for the children’s rights, we watched a film related to this day and then we decorated a Christmas tree using cards made by the students. On the cards they had written wishes for the children around the world.

We were very lucky to be in Greece during this time of the year because everybody was getting ready for Christmas.
So, we helped the pupils to decorate their classrooms and the whole school. We also participated to the rehearsals for the school’s Christmas performance. It took place an evening before the schools close for holidays. The school was full of parents who had come to watch their children acting on stage. It was an excellent performance. At the end of the celebration the pupils offered Greek traditional sweets called melomakarona and kourabiedes. They were delicious!
During the holidays we were put up by the pupils’ families and we enjoyed the famous Greek hospitality. We learned about the traditional Christmas customs and we sang with the children the Christmas carols going around the neighborhoods. On Christmas Day we tasted the delicious Greek food like pork cooked with cabbage or cabbage leaves filled with mince and different kinds of pies.
On the 10th of January we returned to school and after so many days of rest we were really fresh and ready to start working again. On the New Years’ Day here in Greece they cut a special sweet pie called “vasilopita” . We cut one like this at school, too. They hide a coin in this pie and the one who wins it is blessed and lucky for the whole year. And guess who is the lucky one for this year :
Eliska and myself!!!!
