XANTHIPI CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH THE AUSTRIAN CHILDREN
When I arrived in Austria I was very hungry and ate a lot of Christmas cakes that the children of the 1a had made by themselves.
After this I took part of the Christmas celebration at school where the children gave presents to each other, recited poems, sang songs and played music.
In the afternoon the 3rd classes took me to the Christmas-market in Vienna.
I spent lot of time with the family of Sisi and the children showed me their Christmas trees at school.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Christmas customs in Austria:
At the beginning of December the people in Austria buy or produce "Adventkränze" with 4 candles. Every Sunday in December one candle is lighted. The children get an "Adventkalender" with 24 windows on it. Every day they open one of them till Christmas. At weekend many families visit a Christmas-market to buy presents, meet friends and drink hot Punsch. In December the children usually produce Christmas cakes and sweets with their mothers or at school.
At 24th of December the "Christkind" comes to every house. It brings a big Christmas tree with candles, glass-balls and sweets on it. Under the tree the children find all the Christmas presents. In the evening the family meets to have a common dinner and to look at their presents.
On this day many people go to church.
In Austria there are Christmas holidays from 24th of December to 6th of January.
