1st Primary School of Xanthi, Greece

The 1st Primary school of Xanthi is located in the centre of the Old town of Xanthi.
It is our school and it was build in 1863 by a rich tobacco merchant called Michael Matsinis.
He was a great benefactor of  Xanthi since he offered all his fortune for the benefit of the education of his birthplace.
He died some years after the school started to work.
At the beginning the name of the school was "Matsinios school" and its students were either only boys or only girls.
Today our school is a beautiful traditional building.It has been renovated  and is the 1st primary school of our town.It has eight classes, one hundred and sixty pupils and fourteen teachers.
